Giancarlo Piretti’s “Plia” chair for Castelli is a Design Icon. “The Sign of a New Era Centered on Plastic.” The Plia chair was introduced in this manner in 1967 at the Milan Fiera del Mobile. Giancarlo Piretti, the designer of the Plia chair, is credited for revolutionizing the idea of the folding chair through his research on the “three-disc hinge.” The Plia, a folding chair with a cult status, was made possible by the combination of a steel and polypropylene frame. The Plia chair is known as “democratic design.” Italian Design.
