Ligne Roset 4-seat – Studio Bouroullec – Ploum

With Kvadrat Febrik newly upholstered 4-seat Ploum by Studio Bouroullec, France. The brothers Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec designed this highly attractive organic-shaped and extremely comfortable sofa in 2011. In the words of Studio Bouroullec:

“We tried to create a very comfortable, contemporary sofa. Ploum is an exercise in comfort and combines two materials: stretch fabric upholstery and ultra-flexible resilient foam. The shape and enormous proportions are (…) to allow the whole body to lie in many different positions on the soft, padded surface of this sofa without edges. The seat is relatively low, we wanted it to be organically shaped. We saw Ploum as a ripe, voluptuous piece of fruit.

Perhaps the use of stretch fabric is a symbolic parallel to a contemporary lifestyle, in which flexibility in use and comfort seem essential to us.”

This Ploum has been professionally reupholstered for us with a Bordeaux red wool stretch fabric from Kvadrat Febrik – Triangle. The seat and backrest of the sofa are tufted. This four-seat version is asymmetric; on the left side, the backrest is higher, on the right side, the seat is deeper, and the zipper on the back is not in the center.
