The Elba Lounge chair was designed by Franco Raggi in 1985 for the chic Italian designer furniture brand Cappellini. This chair has an ash wood backrest, in which the seat is attached. In contrast to the wooden backrest, the chrome legs are light and open. The seat is made of beautiful original black buffalo leather. The backrest cushion has been reupholstered with cobalt blue wool fabric from Kvadrat’s Hallingdal 65 collection. This Elba Lounge chair is a beautiful example of 1980s Italian Design from the higher segment.

Franco Raggi is an Italian industrial designer known for his innovative designs in various fields such as architecture, furniture, lighting and product design. He was born in Milan in 1945 and studied architecture at the Politecnico di Milano.

Raggi started his career as a designer in the 70s and worked for several renowned design studios such as Studio Alchimia and the Memphis Group. He collaborated with famous designers and architects such as Ettore Sottsass, Alessandro Mendini and Michael Graves.

Raggi’s designs are characterized by their bold use of colour, geometric shapes and playful elements. He has created numerous iconic designs, including the “Ritmo” lamp for Artemide and the “Totem” bookcase for Driade.

In addition to his work as a designer, Raggi also taught design at various universities in Italy and around the world. His work has been exhibited in major museums and galleries around the world, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Center Pompidou in Paris.

Today, Franco Raggi is regarded as one of the most influential industrial designers of his generation, and his innovative designs continue to inspire designers and architects around the world.
